Typhoon Trami triggers severe weather warning in Hainan

Heavy rainfall is expected to continue in China’s southernmost island province of Hainan in the coming days as Trami, this year’s 20th typhoon, made landfall on Sunday morning in Vietnam.

Although Trami didn’t directly made landfall in Hainan, the island’s coastal areas recorded wind gusts between force seven and nine. The strongest gusts, reaching force 11, were recorded at Houhai station in Sanya City’s Haitang District.

Provincial weather officials warned that waned Trami’s remnant vortexes, combined with an approaching cold front, will continue to bring strong winds at sea on Sunday night and heavy rains to Hainan Island and Xisha Islands from Monday to Wednesday. The Meteorological Bureau issued a blue alert–the lowest level in the four-tier system–of Typhoon Warning on Sunday evening.

Following the cessation of Trami’s impact, the high-speed railway services and three ports with inbound and outbound ferries all resumed operation on Sunday afternoon.
