Hainan May Day Holiday travel numbers up 460% over 2023

During this year’s May Day holiday, Hainan’s total number of inbound and outbound travelers continued to increase.

As of 18:00 on May 5, a total of 172 flights and 23,000 passengers arrived in or departed from Meilan and Phoenix International Airports, an increase of 460% over the previous year, with 17,000 travelers passing through Meilan International Airport and 6,000 passengers traveling in and out of Phoenix International Airport.

On February 9th, the National Immigration Administration announced the expansion of travel purposes for visa-free entry to Hainan for citizens of the 59 eligible countries, who are now permitted to visit Hainan for up to 30 days for commercial activities and trade, visits and exchanges, family reunions, receiving medical treatment, attending exhibitions, taking part in sporting events, and other reasons (excluding long-term work and study).

Hainan’s visa-free policy for 59 countries is becoming more open and convenient, with extended lengths of stay, expanded purposes for visa-free entry, simplified customs procedures, and enhanced ease of travel for individuals. At present, Hainan boasts 48 international air routes to and from countries such as Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Russia, and Thailand, mainly covering Europe, Southeast Asia, and other regions.

Ease of entry has injected vitality into the Hainan Free Trade Port. Since the new policy came into effect over two months ago, over 50,000 international travelers have entered Hainan visa-free.
