The UN Food and Agriculture Organization launched the One Country, One Priority Product, or OCOP initiative, in 2021 as part of a five-year plan.
By April 2024, 85 countries expressed their intention to promote the green development of more than fifty special agricultural products, with tropical countries and products making up over 60-percent.
The event in Sanya this week, running from Monday to Thursday, has offered international guests deeper insights into China’s development of tropical agriculture.

During the 174th session of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization Council in December 2023, China announced a 5-million US dollar contribution, from the China-FAO trust fund.
This funding supports the “One Country, One Priority Product” project in fifteen countries worldwide, enhancing the sustainable development of special agricultural products in developing countries.
XIA JINGYUAN, Executive Secretary, OCOP Secretariat, UN Food and Agriculture Organization “China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has demonstrated strong leadership in organizing these countries to participate in this workshop. There have also been comprehensive publicity and various exhibitions, all of which have had a significant impact.”
The sixteen participating demonstration countries come from five regions: Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Central Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the Near East and North Africa.
