Driving Connectivity: China’s Hainan Province leverages special policies to boost video game exports

China’s southern island province of Hainan has become the country’s first pilot region to promote the export of video games. More than 260 video games are operating from the province, reaching players across nearly 150 countries and regions.

The Hainan Free Trade Port’s policies on data security have facilitated the storage, transmission and usage of data within designated zones while driving cross-border and cross-regional data sharing.

Hainan has rolled out several measures in recent years to institutionalize such policies, and encouraged companies to expand their video game exports.
